I have a my passport 500 gb external. I needed it for both PC and Mac, and I read that formatting it in Fat32 would work. I did, it did work, but during an Mp3 file transfer it got unplugged. It still reads and comes up on pc, still shows it as Fat32, but it wont get recognized on a mac at all. Anything I can do? Any help is appreciated.
It’s probably corrupt. I don’t know much about Macs but on Windows TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk often works to restore it. I don’t know if it would work on a Mac or not. Disconnecting a drive improperly is one of the bggest causes of corruption. Make sure the external drive isn’t the only copy you have of important data. Many people here moved everything to their external as an only copy and thought that was a backup.
