Google drive synced 1 way

Hello.

I am looking for a NAS to place in my garage that will sync with google drive.

Me and my wife have separate gmail accounts with tons of pictures/videos, we want the NAS to fetch everything uploaded to google drive and safekeep it locally in case google messes up.

In other words, if a file/picture is deleted in cloud it should not be deleted in the NAS.

Also want the NAS to keep the 2 accounts separate.

Can the WD My Cloud Home Personal Cloud Storage 4TB do this?

(The threads I read so far says multiple accounts and easy google drive sync, but they also hint that if you remove files in google it will remove them on the NAS)

You are saying you want a NAS, and you are asking about a PCS, (Personal Cloud Storage). Here is a link for the User Manual of the My Cloud Home.

If your garage gets as hot as mine does, it is not a suitable location for any WD device

Well.

this is what I’m considering right now.

(that room in my garage will get 25° Celsius max in summertime)

I want something that is easy, will fetch all my google drive stuff and keep it locally, but it should not delete stuff if it is deleted in the google cloud (aka, google messing up, someone getting hold of phones and deleting it there etc.)

I searched abit for WD My Cloud threads, and several gave the impression that the syncing part also removes (which is against the entire reason for having a physical backup).

And keeping it in the garage is simple, house burns down, I have backup in garage.
Garage burns down, I’m in the house/at work having the phone with me (no need for backup)

  1. The My Cloud Home (MCH) is about 7 years old since introduction and close of End of Life (normally 8 years for WD). You should consider something else even though the MCH is perhaps the cheapest personal cloud.
  2. WD may be getting out of the personal NAS market because they have no replacements.
  3. The MCH has a One-Way-Sync from Google cloud to MCH, it does not delete or replace content unless there is a malfunction, which is certainly a possibility so do practice USB backups.

Norway sounds nice in the summer. Cheers
