Hello,
I want to encrypt the G-Raid Shuttle 4.
Is there a preferred way to do this? Does anyone know if there are any negative effects of encrypting a drive on this device?
Best,
Jordan

Hi @Jkirby421
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:
I just opened one.
I figured this question was general enough that the community would benefit from it rather than me sending in an individual support request.

I too am looking for an answer to that, too bad you never got a response. Maybe it can be encrypted like any other external drive using the OS (FileVault/BitLocker/VeraCrypt/LUKS/etc)?
Encrypting a G-RAID Shuttle 4 is doable and usually straightforward. The simplest and most reliable method is encrypting the entire volume at the OS level — BitLocker on Windows or APFS encryption on macOS. Since this enclosure doesn’t clearly support hardware encryption on all versions, OS-level encryption gives you full control. The main thing to be aware of is performance. If you’re working with large media files or high-bandwidth workflows, test your drive speeds before and after encrypting so you know if there’s any slowdown. Also make sure you keep a secure copy of your encryption key, since losing it means the data is gone for good. As long as you plan for those points, encrypting the Shuttle works fine and gives you solid protection if the unit ever gets lost or stolen.
