Few questions about configuration of WD MyCloud

Hi!

Few days ago I decided to buy WD MyCloud. I managed to set up Time Machine to do automated backups on my WD but I still have some problems with some features and also cannot find any information about how to manage files in the folders on the drive.

So…

  1. First of all - what are “mirrored” and “uploaded” folders in all Shared folders - whats the purpose?

  2. Now I have four folders on my drive - “Kris” which is my client folder, default “Public” folder, “Smartware” and “TimeMachineBackup”. Can you please tell what for do I need that smartware folder? Kris is, as I believe, folder which contains files visible only from my computer? So all the music, pictures etc which I want to be visible to all the users in my network, has to be in public folder yes?

  3. I wanted to have my iTunes library reachable from every device connected to my network including mobile devices and AppleTV. I have transferred all my music files from computer internal drive to public folder on mycloud. Now iTunes sees librabry called WD MyCloud BUT - cannot see album covers. Also I cannot edit album information. Lastly - iTunes is hanging critically when I want to add anything to it by dragging any album folder on itunes main window - what is going on? In iTunes preferences I set main iTunes library folder to public folder on MyCloud.

Any help?

Hi,

I would propose that you take a look into the manuals

manuals

I also don’t see the album pictures in Itunes which I do see in MediaPlayer.

I think Itunes and apple try to make it difficult for 3rd party vendors to be compliant with their standards.

  1.  Mirrored and uploaded are used by some DLNA compliant devices.  Safe to delete, but might come back as neeeded, no biggie.

  2.  Smartware contains the WD backup software, some people hate it, some people love it, personally I use Acronis True Image.

  3. Maybe try this, while in iTunes, select all your songs, right click and click get (or download) album artwork

Anyway, my two cents worht.
