Failing to connect to device that was previously working

My WD Cloud Mirror (Gen 2) device goes into some sort of software loop

It has happened a couple of times that WCM is not possible to contact either local or via mycloud.com/ and then seem to work internally (copy files or something like that according to the disk noise and the blue diodes??). First time I connected an external 1 TB USB drive in purpose to take an extra safety backup it took something like an hour before I was able to get in contact with the WCM again.
