External Drive SMART Status Failed

Hi, I have an External Drive My passport Ultra 0830, and can’t open the disk in anyway.
After several tries I have downloaded the WD Drive Utilities and when runing the Drive Status Check get an error of: SMART Status Failed.
I am not interested on recover the data, just to reuse the disk.

Any idea of what’s could go wrong?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

As you said data recovery is not your concern then you can disable this error,

Follow below steps:

Step 1: Reboot your system, and then press the F2 key.

Step 2: Then go to the path: Advanced > SMART settings > SMART self-test.

This will successfully disable this error.

Hi, thanks for your response, this was helpfull, someway
After disable the SMART on bios, I was able to access the disk, and even access the info on it. When I tried to format, get an errror. After that was not able to access again. Even repeating the proccess.
Something to mention is that the disk is encrypted, of course I have the password.
Thanks!
Diego!

I had the same status but I want to recover my data back again
Any chance I would be able to do that?
any idea what caused it?

Sometimes S.M.A.R.T error doesn’t mean that your hard drive has been corrupted. Sometimes it occurs because maybe it detected any issue in your drive.

Here, I will suggest you to check out the below blog that explains all the measures to check the health of any hard disk.

Hope it will solve your issue too!
