EX4 to PR4100 upgrade procedure

Hi all,

I have WD EX4 running with 4HD on RAID5. I just purchased diskless PR4100 and want to move all my disks and data to the new NAS hardware. What is the correct procedure for the upgrade?

  1. remove 4 disks from EX4 and install them into PR4100. (will it pick up the disk configuration? I hope my data will not be lost)
  2. Turn on PR4100 and upgrade the firmware
  3. log in to PR4100 and finish the configuration.

Am I missing anything? Thanks.

Hello I do not think so
Copy your data on our storage.
The PR4100 will format your hard drives to reconfigure a RAID 5

You can simply import your data, but you need to reinstall the applications.
Install the disks in the same order.
In the web UI there’s an option to import the discovered disks.

For the record.

  1. remove 4 disks from EX4 and install them into PR4100. – the system detected new disks and (after some quick procedure) all my data is back online.

However all my users, shares configuration and settings are lost. I had to configure everything from scratch.
