My new elements hard drive is making a clicking sound every five second. Is it normal?
Here is the link to the sound. Vocaroo | Online voice recorder
Hi, did you solve your problems or just created a RMA??
Hard drives have moving parts and when things move, they often create sound. To put it another way, like a car engine, your hard drive can be noisy and still healthy. Some sounds, though, indicate that something is seriously wrong.
Typically, hard drives will make low-pitched whirring or whining noises – particularly when they’re booting up or accessing/storing data – or clicking noises. These are usually perfectly normal and not a cause for concern. It’s also worth noting that it’s far from uncommon for people to assume that something is wrong with their hard drive because of the noise produced by their machine’s fan.
So what can be the reasons for Hard Drive making noise:
- Firstly, the buzzing or grinding noise could be because of the CPU FAN. FAN is embedded to cool down the heated system and prevent overheating damages. There are computers designed to run all the fans simultaneously and at the maximum speed initially . This is to check if the fans are working properly and to remove the accumulated dust. The speed of one fan is not strong enough to remove the dust; hence we need multiple fans to operate simultaneously.
- Secondly, it could be the grinding noise from the hard disk . In fact, this indicates something bad or negative, and you should be worried about this. The reason is, severe internal damage is what may follow. To be specific, the grinding noise from the HDD is a symptom of hard drive failure in the future. This indicates that components in the hard drive have turned faulty.
If you think if your hard drive is making a lot of noise it is important to backup and restore all the data. or use quality and hard driven recovery software that can help you to restore your data back.
