DX4000 current software version

What is the current software for the DX4000 and where can I get it. When I click on “check for software updates” no matter what version I have, I get “no updates available”. 1.7.6.21 is the hightest I’ve seen and that was on a used unit I purchased.

I would have to turn mine on to look, but best I remember it is not really a firmware update but a full wipe and reload of the software. My vote is if it ain’t broke.

OTH, it would not hurt to contact WD and get the iso from them if you ever need it

Your better bet is if you have 2tb useable is to keep it backed up. If it is over 2tb keep copies of your data on another NAS and keep good notes.

the software version on my DX4000 is 1.7.3.13…no updates available when I check.

1_7_6_21 is still the latest and has been released to allow compatibility with additional WD hard drives. I do not think it implements any extra function or bug correction. However with the last patch allowing to use any hard drive this firmware becomes probably useless.

And where might one find this download?

I found the following links for these files :

  • zip file to upgrade an existing (working) machine to

  • full ISO file

They appear to work. Personally speaking I succesfully upgraded two DX4000 with the zip file from 1.7.5.17

Davide

thank you sir. I found the zip file there but not the iso. What did i
miss?

if you cut and paste the “latest” full ftp address it should work, at least it works ok on my side. However being >10Gb it will take hours to complete with a standard ADSL connection. Also the older iso file link works

The only link is to the spiceworks article which has a link to the firmware zip. I don’t see a link to the full iso anywhere either?

Even it is not an hyper link it is definitely there. Here is the cut and paste:

lammpa-1Feb 24I asked support about WD Sentinel DX4000 recovery image. They sent me these links.

Note!!! They are EMEA files since I live in EU and contacted them with my registered serial number provided.
If
you need other than EMEA, try replacing letters “EMEA” in the link with
“APAC” or “PANAM”. I did not try if it works, but it’s worth trying.

Latest → ftp://download:Western11@ftp.eu.wdc.com/Tech%20Support%20Download/EMEA_SvrRecovery_1_7_6_21.iso

Not latest →

I think this is the post we are missing

I don’t know what the difference is between emea and panam. I know one is
for Europe and one is for the americas but I don’t know the specific
differences. yes that link does work. replacing emea with panam doesn’t
work nor does removing the eu from ftp.eu.wdc.com but we are getting closer.

OK, it downloaded successfully the third time, I can view the ISO, now
what? It’s not obvious how to get it to boot on the DX4000

I couldn’t find this documented anywhere so I thought I’d do it in this
chain.

Once the iso is downloaded, I used win10 explorer to open it. The first
file listed was Createkeywizard.exe which creates the bootable USB. You’ll
need a minimum of 16GB. It takes about 1 hr to create it, most of the time
it looks like it is not doing anything. Stick it in either USB slot and
turn the DX on while pressing in the reset button. When you see “loading
recovery” you can release the reset button. It will take a while and then
it reboots, and load OS and that takes several hours. When it starts
loading drivers you are almost done. I’d just plan on letting it run
overnight.

Then get the IP address, browse to it with IPADDRESS/connect and download
and run the setup program. When that is done it’s suppose to apply within
30 minutes. Try overnight.

Anyway, this morning it’s up and running and all I have to do is apply 130
updates, at least on the first pass. I’m sure there will be more.

Ken,
You run setup.exe in that download and it walks you through all this?

No, you run Createkeywizard.exe and it walks you through it. It’s not the
most obvious starting point but it is the first file listed in the ISO.
I guess you have to know to do the update on your own.

If you run setup.exe as per the manual it gives you a GUI to select what you need done.
starts on page 50
But yes, what that GUI does is run createkey if that is the option you select. It is better to stick with the documented process IMHO {grin}

Ah well good to know. I did ask for directions but since I got no reply, I
“investigated” on my own. ,
