Dpkg input/output error when updating firmware

I have backed up the drive and made a complete factory restore, but I still cannot update the firmware. Fails via web UI and also via SSH. The output from the update log:

Please advise!

Hello,

I recommend you contact support directly for assistance.

Contact WD

It’s been seven (7) days since I filed a suport case, no reply from WD…

The way this is going the drive will soon end up at a recycling station after it has been smashed with a hammer. :frowning:

Which means I will be in the market for a non-WD NAS very soon, they don’t seem to support their customers very well. Buggy firmware, ages between fixes, inability to actually upgrade, and lack of support. Disappointed to say the least.

try a manual update…

http://community.wd.com/t5/My-Book-Live/My-Book-Live-Firmware-Version-02-43-10-048/td-p/886731

Perhaps I wasn’t perfectly clear: With “Updating via web UI” I meant using the manual update available in the web interface of the drive.

Also if I SSH into the drive and do a command line update it fails. Samme error, dpkg input/output error as registered in the log file.

(And yes, the automatic update of course also fails.)

then try a different location for the fimrware file. I used the public folder for mine. If that does not work, no idea. You will need Linux Gurus.

Also make sure the file was downloaded completly, check the md5:

md5sum apnc-024310-048-20150507.deb
6d709e978cb97c808038482bb7c3096d apnc-024310-048-20150507.deb

debrick the MBL using a much earlier firmware install.  Then once operational, update firmware to latest.
