Doubt firmware and bios hdd

2.5 and 3.5" HDDs have firmware/bios. What is the name of the chip memory technology where these bios/firmware files are stored on the HDD PCB? Is it a memory chip standard for all manufacturers?

Hi @gamer87
The firmware or BIOS files for 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs are typically stored on a type of non-volatile memory chip known as EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) or Flash memory.

This means there isn’t a universal standard chip used across all HDDs; different HDD models and manufacturers might use different types of memory chips for storing firmware.

Do all of them use one of these two technologies: eeprom or flash? If you use flash, is it nand or nor flash? What type of eeprom?

Retention time of firmware bios files on these chips

Ask you teacher at IC software programing school, for more details.

I don’t have any teachers on this subject

Buy books then, like everyone else does.
