Direct Transfer to PC

What is the best way to transfer files from MyCloud Home directly to PC via USB or Ethernet cable?

I am wondering about that too, apparently not even really discussed anywhere except when hidden between comments and also important to know, how to do it without actually having to log-in since the few instructions I saw, you have to still log in.

Can not do this unless you enabled local access beforehand

Given the current extended outage, I think WD may want to get the word out to the community on a work around or they’re going to have a riot on their hands. I can’t go too many more days without access to my data!

Sorry to hear… I’m in the same boat.

The files aren’t lost per-se right? It is just a delay due to security reasons and to get a new fix/update to play it safe, right? I mean, yeah it ■■■■■ that this is taking over a week already but just want to make sure the stuff is still safe, even with local access not having enabled when hooking it up.

I’ll hold my horses for 2 more days, if nothing happen, I’ll have to get my disk decrypted, wasting money on something I didn’t do, what a fckin joke!!!

@Vara, I’m hoping the files are still safe and recoverable. This is a big lesson-learned!

Local access workaround posted today. Instructions to Enable Local Network Access on a My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo and SanDisk ibi

I got the e-mail today from WD with the instructions to activate local access. Unfortunately, since it took WD a week to send word out to its users, I tried a factory reset on my My Cloud Home (held the reset button depressed for 30 secs) because I figured the problem was on my end. If I try to follow the instructions from Instructions to Enable Local Network Access on a My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo and SanDisk ibi (wd.com), it sends me to a page where it tells me I need to download the WD My Cloud Home app to set up my device. And, of course, that app doesn’t work right now. Looks like, for people like me, my only hope is that sooner or later, WD gets the service back up, and then I have to hope I can reconfigure my device, or it’s a useless brick. Especially since support for it’s scheduled to end in June…

Actually, does anyone know if such a factory reset erases your data? I tried accessing the drive through Windows File Explorer and saw it had only two folders left, while before the reset, it had a third (which was, I think, my username). I would’ve lost only a small amount of data since I use my My Cloud Home as a backup for critical files normally stored on my computer, but still, it’d be better to know now that it’s lost than to have to find out whenever WD does or does not get its stuff together.

edit: got an answer that I might not have lost my data, cause you’d have to press the reset button for a full minute for that. Fingers crossed, I guess. Wait and see if WD either restores services, or pushes out some other method of activating local access that doesn’t require using their services on a re-set device.

There’s no way to connect your drive directly to your computer, unless you setup a “local access” on the same network that your drive is hooked up to.
To do this, you need to watch the video that WD just released on how to hook up for local access.

if i remove the hdd from my wd home cloud can i see the normal files or are the files stored in a different format?
