Different os on WD Cloud

Clean OS (Debian), OpenMediaVault and other "firmwares" would i be able to put ubuntu or debian on the hardrive and will it boot from that as id like to use it to host a discord bot/run command line things cause my cloud thing is broken as is and i rather use hdd in my pc
