Clean OS (Debian), OpenMediaVault and other "firmwares"

@norbalino I choose DSM5 !
But for the moment, no entire success…
I’ve finish all steps without any problems but, don’t start correctly.

if someone have an idea for fix that ?

Led control not realized in kernel, so power led always white.
Just wait ~5 min and try to connect to your wdmc (Like this: https://192.168.1.123:5000 * change IP to WDMC’s ip adress)

@Fox_exe, nothing… But i’ve re-install WD OS with my external case and My Rescue image disk i’ve made before, and retest from the start, and no problem at the mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda3 step !
It’s writing Superblock for now and take a long time !
I Thinks it’s good now, i’ll say you if all it’s good when i’ll finish !

But, thank you so much for you work !

EDIT - 20min Later:

Same like first try… Nothing Boot - Yellow Fixe LED - WDMC don’t appear on my network interface - HDD don’t turn (silence from it)
I don’t understand why… no problem in process, but finally, don’t work correctly …

Someone was already in my case ?

@Killians try to install OSM…

I didn’t have time yet to install DSM5, but i will tell my experience…soon

I’m work for now, but i had an idea when I woke up.
I’ve an 4TB MyCloud, and I’ve think to a sector error ?
If I’ve allocated too much sector ? The problem is maybe in this way ?
What you think about that ?

@Killians I have a 2TB model.

@Fox_exe is there a different configuration for each model?

Nope.
HDD size doesn’t matter.

Note: I exchange my Gen1 to Gen2, so now I can’t check or test something.
I continue support this thread, but no updates or fixes in future (debian/omv/dsm)

Sorry folks, both thanks for support and feedback.

Hi @Fox_exe, ok thanks for your response !

What’s the diference between Gen 1 and Gen? In WD site i only found Gen 1 and Gen 2 for MyCloud Mirror…this thread is for MyCloud or MyCloud Mirror ?

By your experience, do you recommend DSM5 or Debian wheezy + OMV ?

Thanks in advance.

Do a forum search of this My Cloud subforum and you’ll find several threads discussing the difference between the v3.x/v4.x My Clouds and the newer v2.x My Clouds. Primarily its slightly better hardware and a different OS on the newer v2.x My Clouds. The v3.x/v4.x My Clouds use a form of Debian and the newer v2.x My Clouds use a form of Linux with Busybox.

No problem @Fox_exe, i’ll retry tomorrow, and i’ll trip with SysResc Boot, and try to make it with my external case…
I’m curious… :slight_smile:
I’m not Linux professional, but i’ve come little knowledge. And if it without success, i’ll install OMV, for try it… because official WDMC OS is so limited…

Thank you for reading :wink:

I’ll let you know :wink:

@Fox_exe, i want to install Dropbox (Baixar e instalar - Dropbox) on OMV, is it 32 or 64 bits?

@Fox_exe, please help me!

I need to connect by ethernet cable to do the recovery?

I’ve tried OMV and won a White/Yellow LED!

Its ARMHF (Arm v7l, 32bit)

Cheers Fox,

In the end that only freed up about 700k, though I did find out that my ftp client had made a massive vroot.log file, which OMV didn’t allow you to disable, so I’ve managed to turn it off via the conf file to free up ~70Mb. Still a bit tight, but more manageable

Hey !
It’s me, again.
I need help… :frowning:
I’ve restore my disk, OS WD V4 installed.
I tried to install clean debian Wheezy for test OMV.

Run the auto install, with the kernel and rootfs files of “CleanDebian64k” from @Fox_exe Google Drive.

MyCloud start, Green LED.
SSH is running, I can connect with the new login/password.

But nothing else… No web…

If someone know what i’ve to do … ?

Cheers,

CleanDebian64k - Only for dev’s and testing (Its Debian + 64kb patch from WD for increase samba’s speed.)
For OMV you need OMV or CleanJessie (w/o 64k). Jessie is “stable” now.

OK !
I’m sorry, i ignore that … i’m confuse.

So now, I haven’t choice, I’ve to recover MyCloud again in HDD external case for put files inside and redo all the procedure or I can send file il my cloud actually and run it over ?

Use Recovery (Boot from hdd method) for reinstall / change “firmware”

I don’t understand…
I’ve put Jessie CleanOS, but again ce same issue…
