Change My Book Thunderbolt Duo 4TB discs?

Hi there!

I’m a photographer.

I have an My Book Thunderbolt Duo 4TB external HHD. My Book has two green discs. I want to change my green HDD’s to WD black HDD’s. Is this possible? In case this is possible wich WD black HDD’s should i use?

WD green = NAS?

WD black = photograpy?

Regards,

Frank

Hi,

I’m not sure if you will be able to do that since what WD recommends is that in case that one of the drives goes bad, you use the same type of units that are inside of the enclosure so the Raid will rebuild the data and the enclosure information.

I don’t believe you can use blacks, but people have successfully replaced greens with reds.

Here’s a vid of a guy who replaced two 3 TB greens with two 6 TB reds and benchmarked:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxVZCpHn710

Hope this helps
