Backup and delete computer files

i have completed my first back up with my WD my passport Ultra 2016, I now want to delete computer files to clear space.

Should I stop backups now, or simply just unplug it until needed in future?

and if i can do this, and i want to add more backup files to the external hard drive what will happen when it sees no old files and sees new files?

Hello,

If you are planning to delete files from the computer then you need to know that if your Passport drive fails you are going to loose your data. A backup is only a backup if you have your data in more than one location so if one fails you still have your data on the 2nd one.
