Hi Fox,
I have read all your instruction for how to install DSM on “WD My Cloud EX4” Gen 2.
my issue is not boot from USB . i was format it FAT32 and extract the zip file to the usb … as per your instruction
once i power on …always it come back to default web of wd my could ex4

My system

any other way i’ve usb TTL to RS232 this can fix my issue ?

All devices have different hardware. Need different kernel and hacks.
Not all devices can boot from USB.
I dont make anything for Ex4 for now.

Working (I think) config save mechanics. Now - upgrade won’t erase all settings.
Bug: Sometime in “Recovery mode” firmware installer say “Error: Uncknown exception”, but firmware continue installation w/o any changes on webpage. Just wait 5 min and reboot device.

Anybody tried the firmware for MDM gen 2? how does it work? I’ve flashing the binary with the webgui.
It’s not accepting the binary. I will also hook up an FTDI cable to the board and have a look what’s on it.

Oh, I think you’re still due to upload the files. The files I’ve tried, and Chris tried, were the same files, built on Oct 2nd, which as you say are missing usb power and lan ports. How about fan control? Is that included in these builds or still a work in progress? It seemed the fan was running constantly while at the login prompt.

Are these uImage and uRamdisk all that your alternate firmware is? Or there’s additional files that get added once the kernel and ramdisk are stable?

Yeah, when i done with kernel - i build .pat file for full installation.
For Fun support - need correct Gpio pins (3 power pins for different speeds + 1 “fault detect” pin, if present).
Now i trying to swap eth ports… Nothing helps (I miss something, but what?)

Within my try with a 4.6. Kernel, it helped to dissable the 2 unused ethernet phy’s in *.dts file.

So I just removed:

Yeah, i did it, but man, who test my kernel answer “Nothing changes”… Seems hes wrong.

Upd: Files reuploaded. PAT file also available for install.

For full fan support i need correct Gpio pins.
USB power on by default, but for deepsleep mode need some more coding… (usb power control by DSM)
Sources will be available when i done worked DSM. (When its success boot to Desktop)

Oh, I was working off the ftp server. Anyway, I tried your two files located there now. Dates are October 5th and 6th.

I also notice that Chris appears to be booting images from location 0xa00000 and 0xf00000. Peacemaker is booting images from 0x1200000 and 0x2000000. Where as I’m booting images where I load them, at 0x500000 and 0xa00000. Who is correct here?
