XviD in MKV

The WDTV Live Plus cannot seem to play these properly…  over USB and Stream.  It will play them back with stuttering.  The WDTV Live has no issues.  Can this be fixed?

EDIT:

With Firmware Ver. 1.04.31_B there is ZERO issue playing these files back,

With The latest Firmware 1.06.16 There is stuttering in the video.  Audio plays fine.

Did not test.  Firmware Ver. 1.05.04_B

It does however playback some of them properly.

Mediainfo of one that works.

Well, the Live and Live Plus have identical playback capabilities.

So, two questions:

What are the results when the Live and Live+ are running identical firmware versions?   The latest version that is common between the two is 1.05.04, I believe.

How are the two units connected?

My WDTV Live is using the latest. 1.05.  It is uneffected.

The WDTV Live plus was using the latest 1.06.  I downconverted to 1.04 on the WDTV Live Plus and the problem went away.  I did not try 1.05.  Either way something is wrong with 1.06.

All the units are connected via HDMI.  The stuttering playback for XviD in MKV is only happening on a few select XviD files.  Some are uneffected.  With 1.04 there is no issues with any.

I tried it over streaming… and local USB.

This is now broken on the WDTV Live model with firmware 1.06.15_V.  Definitely a firmware problem on WDTV’s End

Hmm…  Care to try something different?

I note that the TECHNICAL details of the two files you posted above are pretty much identical, but there are some notable differences:

The WORKING file has some info as to what created the file, but the other one lacks that.

So, not to say that the Non-working one is faulty, it’s just a clue that they were authored differently.

Try downloading the DivX software and re-writing the file using the actual DivX software:

http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/converter

You do NOT need the “Pro” version; the freeware is sufficient for testing.

Just curious if you run it through DivX’s own software if it will change anything.

(I know it’s XviD video’s you’re talking about, but XviD is just the open-source software for DivX, and then some.)

Also, I note that the CONTAINER for those files is not listed.   Are they AVI files?

The Container is listed in the Title.  MKV.  They all work fine on last firmware 1.05.  It happened on WDTV Live Plus and now WDTV Live.  I am not re-encoding 80 files for something I did not break.  Sticking with 1.05 till its fixed.  I will even send the file to someone if needed.

*DUH*

Sorry, I overlooked the obvious.

Can you send it to me?   I’d like to try it out…

I’ll PM you the server info;  you can ignore if you choose.  :)

Thanks

I will indeed send you this in a few hours.  Thanks for response.

Yep; I concur…  It’s definately a new issue.

Others are now reporting the same or similar thing.
