Xbox freezing on n900 router

My xbox keeps freezing within a couple of minutes of being turned on. I found another post on the forum about this problem, but that person still had it. I turned off all additional features ie fastrack, qmm etc, but I am still having the issue. I tried it wired and wireless. Just looking for some help if anyone figured this out yet, thanks.

This issue needs to be troubleshoot a bit further.

Have you already contacted support about this?

Hello all,

Without a doubt, there is something wrong with the N900 in default settings with the XBOX.  I had just purchased an N900 about a week ago, and instantly noticed issues with my wired XBOX 360.

My N900 was essentially setup with default options and the latest firmware (1.07.16).  I had just downloaded the game ‘Ascend’ and had begun playing.  After about 20 minutes I kept loosing connection with the Ascend cloud servers.  I thought that it was because their servers were having issues.  When I exited the game and went to the dashboard, I realized that I had lost connection with XBOX Live.  I ran the network tests on the XBOX and didn’t seem to have issues with the network or connecting to the internet, but could not connect to XBOX live.

I thought it was an isolated issue and just gave up.  Tried again the next day, and the next day, and had the same experience.  I played about 20 minutes then started having issues with my connection.  I researched online and discovered that the N900 router was causing problems for many people on XBOX consoles.  The only think I could think of that would cause this is the QOS and/or WMM features.  So I disabled them all and havn’t had an issue since.

When reviewing the settings in the router, I saw that the UPNP had XBOX values automatically applied, which is typically a good thing.  That is now disabled also.

There is no doubt whatsoever, that the router has an issue serving XBOX network demands.  This isn’t obvious after a short amount of time… for me, it sometimes took nearly 30 or more before having issues.  But again, there is simply no doubt it is the router.

My suggestion would be for one of your engineers to try my example… the Ascend game is free to play and download.  Try it on a network with default settings with a wired connection and see if you can play for longer than an hour.

One thing to point out, I’m on a Cisco cable modem with around 25mb/25mb connection.

Good luck guys, I hope you figure this out.

We will make sure someone attempts to reproduce this issue.

Did you contact one of our support specialist to troubleshoot this further?

No I did not.  If you think it will help, I’ll be happy to contact customer support.  I was thinking of this forum as probably the best way to keep WD informed.

Any advice on contacting customer support?  Should I send an email or call?

Thanks,

Has a resolution been found for this issue? I have an N750 and after hours of troubleshooting an issue with my Xbox(es) freezing, I finally pinpointed it to the N750. My recently added N750 works in AP mode and is a spur to the core system which is wired. I have 2 Xbox360 Slim systems working as MCE Extenders and both are affected. Removing the WD router from the system immediately fixes the issue. Reinstating it immediately causes recurrence.

Nothing?

I contacted your customer support also and no response from them either.

When I take this back to the retailer tomorrow, do I just tell them that the product has a major flaw or that WD don’t respond to service requests?

It’s probably too late to help you but I am having a similar experience with the N750.  What were you using for a TV tuner(s)?  Were you using an HDHomerun Prime?  I found a partial work around which I posted here:

My WD freezes as well. About 3 weeks ago I turned on the Xbox 360 for the first time since I purchased the router (been playing LOTRO). Then the freezing issues started. It would happen on the Dashboard and it would happen when playing. It would happening all the time and all with a couple of minutes turning on the Xbox 360. I did some research and tried other things (clear cache, remove HDD, yada, yada, yada) and nothing worked. I finally stumbled upon your post. I decided to switch out the WD for the old Netgear I was using and guess what…THE FREEZING STOPPED! There is no doubt in my mind that the issue is with the WD router.I am going to purchase another 5GHZ router instead if waiting for a fix or a replacement to do the exact same thing. Which is pretty much waste my time with a defective product.

Exactly the same here, without fail and yes I do have the HD Homerun too. The N750 simply has to be plugged in, not even connected to and the XBOX locks up. I even tried disconnecting wireless altogether and plugging in the XBOX and it still freezes. After reading this post I’ve unplugged the HD HR and giving the XBOX a try.

I bought a n900 last week, my xbox hasnt worked properly sense. All the same problems as the people stated above. Xbox freezes and crashes when I connect. It actually freezes my xbox the same way it does when it over heats. This is a huge problem.

Apparently WD doesn’t think so.  They continue to sell the N900 and won’t fix it.  I will never buy another WD Network device again.  There are some workarounds I posted here

Well that cant be true. Bought my n900 months ago haven’t played XBOX since. My WD is a bypass for xfinity’s TERRIBLE gateway and got an error message the XBOX server “doesn’t like” the WD router and to open 2 ports. Opened ports and it  still “doesn’t like” the modem. I have had too long now to return. How could they make top of the line home use modems and forget about gamers?
