Windows Update Dec 25 - Did it mess with the WD Drivers?

We have an older WD External HD. We just ran the Windows 10 update released this month Now, PC will not recognize the external. ??

Hello,

Please refer to the following KBA article: Cannot Find My WD Drive on Windows or macOS

There could be many factors that can lead to this issue, such as:

  1. The corrupt or unstable USB driver
  2. Windows is missing important updates
  3. USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt
  4. Corrupt USB drive or partition

You can try the below options as a solution to fix your USB drive:

  1. Restart your system
  2. Try different PC/Laptop
  3. Re-install USB drivers in your system
  4. Unplug all connected USB drives
  5. Use data recovery software

Data recovery from a faulty or unreadable storage drive is possible and also not that challenging if you have the right tools with you, such as trustworthy data recovery software. Here, I recommend you to use Stellar Data Recovery Professional Software as it is one of the most reliable & easy to use data recovery software that enables the user to recover their lost or deleted data from corrupted, unresponsive, or accidentally formatted drive and even recover lost partitions of the drive.

Hope this will help.

I wondered the same thing, if updates caused this issue.I have two My Passports, one being older than the other, the older one is seen by win10 and the other is not.I’ve done all the WD troubleshooting to no avail ,Last used the device early Dec so seems coincidental
