has anyone used the WD formatter to backup your drive. I want to transfer my
system to a new computer

Aligning the hard drive with the Quick Formatter depends on the hard drive itself. If Windows Backup can successfully store an image then the WDWF is not needed unless you are interested on using the hard drive with Windows XP.
