I want to move a Mac Photos library off my Macbook and onto the Passport Wireless to free up space. I will be creating a new Photos Library for photos going forward but would obviously like to have occasional access to the old library. In order for me to actually “use” the library ( i.e. make changes) I would have to reformat the drive as a Mac drive. Just worried that I will lose some of the other features built in to the drive if I change the format.

Yes, you will loose some of the features on the drive. You wont be able to use the drive wireless functionality.
