I recently logged into my router to opened/forwarded port 8021 to the FTP server. Now my website can write backup files into the NAS via the Internet. Great! Which brings me to the question: What use is the Port Forwarding section in the Dashboard of the EX2? I didn’t have to use it. So who does?
The only thing I can think of is that if the router has enabled UPnP (which I understand represents a security risk) the Port Forwarding feature will somehow be able to make the required port forwarding changes in the router for you. But that is only a guess. What do the experts say?
