I would be interested in what HDD hardware is used in the USB3 1TB “MyPassport”

Even though WD does not provide that information, I think is a Scorpio Blue drive.
It is not Scorpio Blue. New Passport Essentials SE comes with a custom built HDD with USB>SATA integrated. In other words, you can’t use the drive on SATA interface. If something goes wrong with USB port, you’ll lose all your data unless you’re willing to pay ten times of the drive value for data recovery. Make your choice!
