my gen 1 wdtv not recongizing my book 4tb drive. made smaller partitions ,fomatted and still doesn’t read it. Any ideas?
WDTV does not read ExFAT. Did you use NTFS?
Also, what size are your partitions ? WDTV Gen 1 only supports a Max of 2TB
WDTV GEN1 also does not support GPT partitions. So I think you’re out of luck doing MBR on a 4TB disk?

On the 4TB, just create 2x 2TB partitions and convert GPT to MBR
i used AOMEI Partition Assistant ¶ Standard Edition to convert GPT to MBR a while ago… works great, doesent delete any data on the HDD

Consider purchasing a “Newer” device eg. WDTV Live Streaming, WDTV Personal Media Player or even a WDTV Live Hub
I can only speak from personal experience… my WDTV Live Hub sees my 3TB My Book and 3TB Elements HDD fine.
A few people have reported 4TB drives working on the newer devices (but i can’t verify this, without owning one)
