wdbctl0080HWT-10 firmware upgrade failure

Issue Summary: Firmware upgrade failed and device (data) is inaccessible

Model: wdbctl0080HWT-10

  • Both “pin” resets failed
  • LED blinking blue for 48+ hours
  • pinned to LAN IP address via router’s DHCP
  • fails to respond to pings
  • fails to respond to ssh login

Questions:

  • Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a solution?
  • Is there a Western digital publication that addresses this problem?
  • Is there a procedure to reinstall the firmware that does not require access the device’s web server?

Update:

  • The hard drive was connected to an Ubuntu system.
  • Data is accessible

Is it reasonable to assume that the drive is not the problem?

Is it possible to somehow manually load the firmware into the WD circuit board? How does the factory do this?
