WD5000AAKX & SATA1 (1.5GBPS) compatibility using speed auto-negotiation

I’m in need for a new 500GB and got an old 865PE based motherboard from late 2003,Now I know for a fact that the SATA 3.0 (6 GBPS) standard is backwards compatible even with the first revision,I also know that my motherboard’s SATA controller supports speed auto-negotation,So will the WD5000AAKX work? Only answer if you know your stuff,Please!

Don’t wanna hear the typical “You can only jumper it to SATA 2.0 mode so no”,I’m not talking about that,I’m talking about running it jumper free on an SATA 1.5 controller that supports speed auto-negotation,I don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t work,But just gotta be sure.

i have an intel 915gav board with sata 1 and it works without any jumper

I have a D875PBZ Intel board with Sata1.  Chipset is the 875P w/ ICH5-R for the southbridge I/O.  I’m running the WD5002AALX, Sata3 (6.0Gb/s) jumper free.  Installed it, powered up and XP reported a new drive.
