I have two WD5000AAKS drives and when they are connected and idle they make noises like the are perminantly seeking/reading/writing data. As soon as I do something with them, SMART test, copy files etc they behave normally again. Is this normal?
Model: WDC WD5000AAKS-00V1A0
FW: 05.01D05
Can’t find anything in the knowledge base, FAQ or downloads.
nope thats not normal
i think something is wrong with the drive
try it in another diferent setup and see how behaves
Didn’t think so. I’ve emailed WD support.
I’ve read some horror story reviews on these drives now so I’m more concerned about the lifespan of them.
I can reproduce the issue just by powering the drive up (no data cable connected) so it’s not the setup…
