WD500 connected to a PC

I had changed Cable providers and my DVR Expander is no longer compatible with the box my current provider uses. I thought I could use this as an extra drive for my PC. I was able to reformat the drive to use with my PC, and assigned a driver letter. But now, everytime I reboot my computer, or change login users, the drive disappears. It will only show up if I unplug the eSATA cable and then plug it back in again. Any ideas? Thanks!

Well that’s kinda odd…

WD Esata drives are not hotswappable - meaning they shouldn’t mount if you disconnect and reconnect them. They should come up only if they are plugged in at boot. How long is your eSata cable?

WD Esata drives are not hotswappable

eSata and SATA are pretty much the same thing; and most SATA drives (if not all) ARE hot-swappable.

I’ve even swapped SATA drives on my MOBO while powered up with no issues…

SATA is usually HSable, however eSATA depends on the actual drive. According to WD they are not in any case…

WD says otherwise…
