I think the internal board is dead. New power cord and still not firing up. Before I take the disk out and throw it in a on a converter… is there any special WD software I need or should it plug and pray?

Which WD drive are you using, internal or external hard drive?
You can try connecting drive to the different computer or in different USB interface if using external drive. Also you can use WD’s diagnostic tool to check the health or performance of the drives.
