WD20EFRX Red Power-up in standby / PIUS / PM2

When I short jumper pins 3-4 as noted by the linked document to enable “power-up in standby” (a.k.a. PM2) on a WD20EFRX “red” drive, it doesn’t seem to have any effect at all.  The drives (all of three that I recently purchased) all spin up the instant power is applied.

Does anyone know how to enable PM2 on the red drives?

I have a WD5000AAVS drive that also ignores its PM2 jumper. It came out of an STB.

You could enable PUIS using an ATA Set Features command. The following tools should be able to do it.

HDAT2:

Just a note that HDAT2 did the trick.  Took a while though to figure out how to boot it on a headless/CD-less server (it cannot be used from a USB stick, no matter what I tried).  Looks like a nice utitlity to keep in my grab bag of tricks.  Thank you!
