wd10ears

Today I bought a brand new WD10EARS 1TB SATA / 64MB Cache and i have a problem!!! After i installed it on my computer i entered in BIOS and search for HDD. And there is the problem my WD10EARS have only 33 MB in BIOS. When i tried to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 and Windows XP Profesional there was again 33MB. But then i tried with Ubuntu 10 and surprise!!! In Ubuntu hdd capacity is 1TB! Why isn’t workin in Windows 7?

I’m guessing that you have a Gigabyte motherboard with an Xpress Recovery BIOS. If so, then a bug in the BIOS has incorrectly truncated the drive after BIOS wrote a backup of itself to a HPA.

See this thread for an explanation and solution:

BTW, the reason that Ubuntu sees the full 1TB is because it is getting this information from the partition table in sector 0.

Yes i have a Gigabyte motherboard. And thank you for helping me! I fixed it with HDAT2! Works fine now!

Thank you again and God bless you! Have a nice day.
