Hi, I read many threads here about how these are not “oficially” RAID enabled. I have 1TB WD1002FAEX that I bought in January 2011. I haven’t touched the FW and the production date is Dec 2010. I wanted to set up a home file server. I am not a fan of the buzz ZFS and wanted to set up a software RAID 1 with 2 of these drives. However, if I buy 1 more from the egg, the FW will most likely be different.

Will I be affected by having different FW? Can/should I update my drive’s FW?

Since it’s SW RAID, will there be a problem?

Anyone successfully set up FreeNAS with 2 Caviar Blacks?
I want to be sure before I spent $100 on another drive. Based on what I read there shouldn’t be a problem with a software RAID 1… but you guys may know better.
