WD Utilities and Disk Utility report failure

For the last few days, my 3 TB My Book for Mac attached to a 27” iMac has been telling me to check the health of the disk on WD Drive Utilities. The Quick Drive Test passes, but the Complete Drive Test failed after being allowed to run overnight. The WD Drive Utilities then crashed.

Apple’s Disk Utility First Aid reports:

“Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required. Unable to unmount volume for repair. Operation failed…”

The light that used to periodically appear on the disk drive even when the drive is not being accessed no longer appears.

What should I do now. Is the drive in the early stage of failing?

Sounds like it.

As a recommendation, make sure that your data is on both places, your Mac and the external drive.

If the unit stills under warranty, try contacting WD Support for direct assistance on this case.
