WD Unlocker does not unlock and let me gain access to My Passport Hard Drive

Hi,

Please help, I am trying to access my MyPassport 1TB hard-drive, however everytime I use the WD Unlocker Drive, it says that I have unlocked the drive, however I cannot find it anywhere on my Macbook Pro Retina 15" 2014. I have looked on Finder and on Disk Utility. Also used WD Drive Utilities to try and find a solution.

I had this problem intermittently since I got the drive, where I would unlock it and sometimes have to wait or close finder several times before MyPassport showed up and I would be able to access.

Has anyone experienced this and found a solid solution to the problem?

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!

Hello,

Please refer to the following KBA article: WD Unlocker: Crashes on Apple macOS M1 ARM Processor

Whenever you connect an external drive to your mac, the storage drive may not show up on Desktop, Finder or even on Disk Utility due to various reasons:

  1. USB connectivity problem
  2. MacOS preference settings
  3. Partition map damage
  4. Device incompatibility
  5. Physical damage on a drive

However, to fix the issue, you can try the below methods:

  1. Check the USB connectivity
  2. Enable visibility of external hard drive
  3. Update macOS
  4. Repair external hard drive by using Disk Utility
  5. Repair external hard drive by using Terminal
  6. Erase the external hard drive
  7. If none of the above works, then the drive needs replacement

Further, you can also check the below link for steps to be followed in each method mentioned above:

Hope it helps!
