WD sync installer does not recognise username & password

Am trying to install WD sync to my device over internet - I can log into my Cloud, but when I put same credentials into WD sync installer to identify my devices, I click next and fields go blank;

Hey cgi.

The wd sync is an app for the regular Mycloud, not the Home.

Assuming that you have a mycloud home (because you are in the home section of the foprum). To sync folders in my cloud home you have to install the wd discovery app (https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=1101&lang=en#WD_downloads) and right click the folder to sync.

Watch this video, at around 7:25 Lon Seidman start to talk about the options to sync folders

@cgi has a normal My Cloud since he is signed into files.mycloud.com in his screen shot. I have PMed the mods and ask them to move this post to the correct board.

As a troubleshooting step try disabling any firewall and or security software on the computer. Could be the WD Sync program is being blocked from accessing the internet.

Am now using WD Discovery on recommendation of PEMAMETAL. Once downloaded, it accepts my username and password and then goes to a new screen asking for the nine-digit code, which is neither on the device or in the quick installation guide. The NAS Drive is installed at a colleague’s house, I am trying to operate sync remotely.

The WD Discovery program is for the WD My Cloud Home devices NOT the My Cloud devices. The My Cloud Home is different than the My Cloud. You will have to figure out what specific My Cloud unit is at the colleague’s house in order to determine which specific software to use.

If you indeed are trying to connect to a My Cloud Home device then you may need the 9 digit code that apparently comes with the device. One can read, if you haven’t done so already, the My Cloud Home User Manual to see if there is more pertinent information that may apply to your issue.

ok - thanks for your help, but I am back to square one with this. My device is a my cloud device, when I download WD Sync, it asks for my My Cloud username and password, when I enter and click enter the fields just go blank. Selecting the ‘forgot password’ option also does not help, nothing happens. Yet my username and password are accepted when I go into my cloud and can see the folders I have access to on the shared NAS Drive. I tried doing this with firewall off, with the same result - can anyone help?

What operating system are you using?

If Windows are you installing under an administrator account or a guest account?

Is this PC currently on business corporate LAN. In other words a work computer.

Windows - I am administrator for this OS, it is a personal laptop, not a work computer. I have contacted colleague to see if there is a permissions option for the NAS drive to make me administrator at that end.

The fact that using MyCloud.com to access the remote My Cloud shows that the My Cloud remote access is working properly. That would seem to indicate there is some sort of conflict on that PC that is causing the WD Sync software to not work properly.

Do you have another computer at the remote location you can test WD Sync on as a troubleshooting step?

Going to assume you’ve already tried uninstalling WD Sync and reinstalled it.

Many thanks for your ongoing help Bennor - I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and tried signing in under my colleagues’ credentials, neither of which have worked. I will try on another pc when i get back, but this is the one I need to work from.

Are you using your MyCloud user credentials, or your mycloud.com user credentials? They are not the same. Note that in the picture in the first post, it is asking for your mycloud.com user credentials; “Sign in to your MyCloud.com account to see all your My Cloud devices”.
