WD Sentinel DX4000 - Recreating the storage

Hi

I have a DX4000 and two new 2TB drives in slot 1 and 2. I now have run the USB stick with “Recreating the storage” several times, with recreating it each time new. From the second time on there was the error message “Ungültige Anzahl Laufwerke” (German) which means "Invalid Drive Count " I can’t find this error message in the english or german manuals.

The lights above the drives are allways bright blue wehen they glow. When the error message pops up the light above the power button turns red.

Can you help me? Does it probably try to install Raid 5 ect. instead of Raid 1?

It will only try raid 1 if it sees 2 new drives.  But if it thinks the drives were ever raid 5 it will try to do that and fail.

I would slave each drive in another PC one at a time and carefully use diskpart to clean the drives and try again

Thank you. I will try that.

Now I have noticed, that wenn I press the power button, the LED for 1,2 and 4 flash red. Afterwards the once with a drive in it shine blue.

The message after the first try with “Recreating the storage” was INVALID CONFIG.

If you look on your thumb drive there will be a wd folder with a log file in it.  It may also shed some light on what is going on.  At the end it should say raid 1 or 5

It can’t detect any drives.

Do I probably have the wrong products?

But it can detect something:

yea, it is very pickey.  even the firmware has to match

I think there is a thread in here about editing the whitelist at your own risk.  It is hard to find the correct 2tb drives these days

yea, take it or leave it

I guess since you have no data to loose you could try it.  Note you have to edit the list on both thumb drives
