So I have been curious why my safe point takes 2 to 3 hours to complete when there has been no activity to change files. In addition, since I have 50,000 or more photos, wdphotomergerd and convert seem to run constantly.
Here is what I found and it does not make sense!
wdphotomergerd create thumbnails in hidden directories entitled:
.wdmc
WD Safe Points is configured to “exclude” .wdmc directores using the --exclude-from option where the file is:
/etc/nas/NSPT/exclude.txt
The rsync command has the following option:
–delete-excluded
So, does this make sense? Is rsync deleting from .wdmc on the sending side so that wdphotomergerd needs to recreate them again? I don’t think so but just wondering.
I don’t use safepoint so can’t comment on that portion
the wdphotomergerd process on mine was using a lot of CPU since the very begining, I think from te initial V4 FW but this stayed going back to V3 then to the 2nd V4. this weekend I did a system only restore then an upgrade to the latest FW and within 12 hours it was doing virtually nothing and idle CPU over 50%
I would suggest disconnecting the USB disk doing a system only restore, an upgrade if you want then when it stabilizes, probably 1-12hours add the USB drive back in and try safepoint again
