WD Purple power supply

Hello.

I have digital video recorder (redline mhd8n) and 7 cameras (redline PT-MHD720P-C-IR). These surveillance system power supplied by uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with voltage 12.7V. I can adjust voltage from 11V to 14V. UPS has battery 12V 7Ah, but because of low voltage it discharged too quickly (about 30 minutes). I want rise power voltage to 13.7V. Is it safe for HDD? Will high voltage damage it?

I asked the manufactor of DVR about it. He answered that DVR and cameras will be fine, but lifecycle of HDD will be shortened. Is it true?

Thank you!

Hi, ckunep

Well, a normal 3.5" drive requires 12 and 5 volts and consumes approx. 5-11watts of power
± 5% is ok anything over 13volts/ under 11.5 is somewhat out of bounds. So we do not recommend to use the external drive more than 12.1~0.3volts
