WD Passport Will Not Load - Error 31 Cannot Load Driver

My WD Passport was working fine one minute then not the next. Literally within the space of one minute, it stopped being recognized when I would plug in the USB cable.

The light will come on, the drive will spin but it is not being detected in My Computer or Manager.

I reinstalled the device but Windows says it can’t load the drivers. I get this message:

“This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)”

I’ve also tried unisntalling, reinstalling, disabling and enabling to no avail.

I have tried other USB ports, cables and the like. It will work in my desktop but not my laptop and I use this drive on the go with my laptop. The WD Passport is very gently handled and cared for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Drivers comes built-in Windows, since the drive works fine in your Desktop nothing seems to be wrong with it.  You may try to run an OS repair in your laptop, since the USB mass storage drivers seems to be corrupted.
