We have had our WD external hard drive for about 18 months and have not had a problem with it until very recently. The device is visible in my computer but cannot open. It is visible in drive management showing a healthy partition. It does show a type of raw instead of fat32 or ntfs. I have removed the software, deleted the driver, reinstalled the driver, attempted to reinstall the software and so on. I have downloaded the diagnostic tool from WD but it doesn’t see the external hard drive as a physical drive. I don’t know what to do next…
This might fix the problem http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ Probably something got corrupt. I also think but can’t find the link right now that the Windows command prompt to convert from FAT32 to NTFS may work.
