WD My Book Duo dismounts 3-5x daily; runs fan

Around 3-5 times a day, my My Book Duo 16TB (WDBFBE0160JBK-NESN) drops its connection to the PC. The fans ramp up for around 5 minutes before stopping, at which point the disk remounts to the PC.

Have tried different connections to computer (by way of USB and USB-C ports). Have ensured there is enough airflow around drive. Updated firmware, performed WD drive scans, etc.

Needless to say this is both annoying and problematic as this drive serves as my main backup (which also serves as host for online backup). Have owned for less than a year and the issue has persisted for at least the last six months.

Any ideas or things I can try?

I’ve been having the exact same issue for a few months now as well.

I feel that the temp sensors are reporting higher than normal values, leading to it disconnecting to protect the drives from damage.

This issue would occur whenever I turned on my portable heater in the winter, and now that we’re headed into summer, the issue is far more frequent.
