WD My Book 4TB dead out of the box

Hi. I just got home from Target with my WD My Book 4TB, and was really excited to start using it since it’s so big, but as soon as I started copying my files to it from my old hard drive, I noticed something was up. The transfers would randomly fail with no error codes, So I opened my hard disk checking utility, and found that my brand new hard drive already had reallocated sectors right out of the box. I went to look up the issue online, but before I knew it, the drive was completely unrecognizable by my PC. At this point my computer doesn’t detect the drive whether it’s plugged in through the enclosure, or even plugged directly into my SATA ports. The computer won’t even boot when I have the drive plugged in anywhere. A little side note, every so often I could hear the drive knocking while it was turned on.

Hi earthboundin,

Is the drive is showing up in the disk management? Also, you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this.
