WD External Hard drive not recognized in my computer

Hi, I just had the same problem. I disconnected the drive from my PC and connected it to the laptop and nothing happened. The light was on. I rebooted without any result. I started looking for support here when I saw the first reply. It turned out that the cable wasn’t correctly put (the mini USB side). I guess the cable is the culprit here, not the drive, which was a relief for me. Try setting it in place, if not, try another cable (much simpler than recovering data and buying another device).

Hi. I have a problem. I have a My Passport Essential SE, WDBABM0010BBK-00. 1TB. The HDD it’s full.  I update the firmware and, after that i can’t see the device in the computer. I can;t have access to him. What it’s happened?

Thanks

Hello,

I have a WD My Passport essential se  1tb USB 3.0 external drive.

My device is not being recognized in my computer or in disk management, it is however being recognized in the usb device viewer and in device manager/disk drives

I downloaded the usb device viewer and i saw the following message:

What happened and How can I fix this??

AIUI, if the bridge chip identifies itself with a Western Digital product name, then the problem is most probably with the drive, not the bridge board. However, to be certain, you would need to remove the drive from the enclosure and attach it directly to your computer’s motherboard, or install it in another enclosure.

OTOH, if the bridge chip identifies itself with its own manufacturer, eg Initio, then I believe that the bridge itself may be faulty, possibly a corrupted serial EEPROM.

Mine does exactly the same as what everyone else is saying!! the only difference is that it works if i plug it into my ps3!! this isnt much use from the point of view i can only access videos etc and cannot view any of my documents.

would love it if someone found a solutuion so it stops freezing my computer…

Did you ever find a cure for this?  I’m having the exact same problem…

clarify:  problem is, I plug the external drive (WD 500gb)  into both PCs and MACs and the light goes on, and I can hear it working like normal, but none of the computers recognize it’s plugged in.

Help??

Just had a similar problem with a WD Passport 500GB.  The drive would be picked up by windows, but the FS must have been corrupt as the drive was ‘inaccessible’.  Used ‘Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery’ to recover all the data from the drive and simply reformatted.  Don’t know if this info will haelp anyone.

I’m seeing first-time posters in several forums touting Stellar Phoenix. Seems suspiciously like spam to me …
