WD Essential External Hard Disk of 250 GB not detected

Dear Sir / Ma’am,

My WD Essential External Hard Disk is not getting detected on any machine. On connecting to the laptop / desktop, the light on the Hard Disk glows but the hard drive doesnt get detected.

Please help in this regard.

If the drive is not seen when you connect it to your computer then you should try some basic troubleshooting:

1- Connecting the power adapter to the wall directly.

2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port (directly to the PC, not through a hub).

3- Make sure you hear the connection sound windows makes when recognizes a USB device.

4- Go to "Disk Management” to verify if the drive shows up there.

If the drive shows up in disk management but it is not seen on Computer, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.

Dear Sir / Ma’am,

On connecting to the laptop following things happen.

  1. Light appearns on the hard drive.

  2. connection sound is audible.

  3. Hard drive connected does not appear on the laptop.

  4. Hard drive does not appear in the disk management window.

  5. Light is visible on the hard drive all the time the device is connected to the laptop.

Please suggest what can be done.
