I have a requirement for a USB3 connected 4TB drive and am considering the WD Elements 4TB one. However I have one specific requirement which must be met. I will be connecting the PC and the storage to a UPS with automated shutdown on mains supply fail. When the supply is restored the PC will automatically turn back on (since that’s set in the BIOS options). What I don’t know is whether the WD storage will be available as soon as the mains power is restored, i.e. does the device have a soft/non-latching power switch that someone would need to press after power restore to actually turn it on.
