WD Elements 3TB & 4TB Drives NOT Recognized by Windows 7

I have 2 WD Elements external USB drives that I use for backing up all my data-- a 3TB and a 4 TB. They have worked flawlessly until recently. I did a new build of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a brand new ASUS G751 laptop with USB 3 ports, and now when I plug the drives into the USB ports Windows will NOT recognize either drive. I have tried different USB ports, to no avail. Sometimes I will get an error message that the drive needs to be formatted, but of course I don’t want to do that because the drives contain all of my images and data files! Are the drives going bad or is there an obvious solution to this problem?

Thanks for any and all responses!

Hi,

I suggest you check the Bios or Boot start ups on the new PC. They should include the WD Elements drives.
