I used a USB 3.0 extension cable - then connected the usb 3.0 cable connector present on my WD elements 2tb drive to my desktop - it was detected, but within 5 seconds got disconnected with a beep.
Again it showed up via a USB icon on taskbar - again it got disconnected repeatedly.
Finally - removed the extension cable - used the shorter USB 3.0 cable directly plugged into my rear usb 3.-0 port of PC Cabinet, this time it got detected and connected steadily/permanently.
This could be related to the USB extension cable other than the WD Elements drive itself. USB extension cables, especially longer ones, can sometimes cause signal degradation or power transfer issues, and make unstable connections or disconnections.
