WD Elements 1TB USB 3.0 - PS3

I have recently purchased a WD Elements 1TB USB 3.0 External HDD for use with my PS3 but I cannot get it to connect at all!

The HDD itself is awesome, looks great and very handy being so small and self powered! So I am happy with it! Just have a frustrating problem!

I have read on other websites about WD Passports having problems with the PS3’s USB power supply, so I bought a USB Y cable in the hope that would resolve the issue but to no avail!

I have formatted the HDD and partitioned it to FAT32 using the WD TRUE IMAGE software but I am not sure if I am using this program right! If any one could give me a step by step guide or any idea’s as to how to make this work with my PS3 would be greatly appreciated as I’ve stayed awake nearly 48hrs trying to get this to work!

Thanks for any responses!

One other thing is that the WD Elements 1TB USB 3.0 is also showing up as a Local Disk after I formatted it and no longer within the Devices With Removable Storage section in My Computer on Windows 7! Any ideas how to fix this also?

It may have something to do with the drive size. There are limits on FAT32 and possibly the PS3 so you might need to partition it. Try looking in to that I don’t have much more to offer.

Thanks for the reply! Joe_S

I don’t think this is the problem as I already have an old 1TB External HDD that is powered from the mains which is also formatted to FAT32 and the PS3 has no problem with it at all! So I don’t think its down to partition size!
