WD Elements 1TB - brand new - not working?

Hi all,
Just bought and opened my new WD Elements Basic Storage 1TB portable drive. I have hooked it up to my HP desktop - into two different USB slots - but the drive isn’t showing at all on my windows explorer. I’ve rebooted the computer - still nothing.

The drive itself when I plug it in has the light come on and a whirring noise inside - but the drive never shows on my explorer.

Using Windows 10.

Not a good sign; it should be more like a soft humming sound. Try running a test using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. If the unit fails any test then it should be replaced.
